Boom Festival 2027: 30 Years of Psychedelic Culture in Portugal

From July 18 to 25, 2027, Boom Festival will return to Boomland, Portugal, for one of the most important editions in its history.

The 16th edition of the festival will celebrate 30 years of Boom, three decades after its first gathering took place in 1997. The anniversary edition will once again unfold around the full moon, bringing together the global psychedelic community for a week of music, art, culture, nature and collective experiences.

Since its beginnings, Boom has grown far beyond being simply a psytrance festival. Today, it is one of the most internationally recognized gatherings of psychedelic culture, welcoming people from across the world while remaining independent and free from corporate sponsorship.

Celebrating 30 Years of Boom Festival

The first Boom Festival took place from August 14 to 16, 1997, in Herdade do Zambujal, Portugal.

Three decades later, the festival has become a global meeting point for psychedelic culture.

Boom 2027 will mark its 16th edition, and the organizers are preparing the anniversary as a celebration not only of the festival itself, but also of the community, artists and movements that have shaped Boom over the past 30 years.

The festival will take place during the July full moon, continuing one of Boom's most recognizable traditions.

Dance Temple: The Psytrance Heart of Boom

The Dance Temple is the central psytrance stage of Boom Festival and one of the most iconic dancefloors in the global psychedelic scene.

Across the festival, it becomes the meeting point for thousands of dancers as the music moves through different branches of psychedelic trance.

For Boom 2027, the organizers have announced a major effort to refresh the musical program. Around 70% of the projects performing across Boom's main music stages will not have performed at the 2025 edition.

The goal is to introduce new projects and emerging artists while continuing to feature established names from the international psychedelic scene.

Boom is also reserving a number of performance slots at stages including the Dance Temple for local and international artists under the age of 30.

Alchemy Circle and the Wider Electronic Spectrum

While psytrance remains deeply connected to Boom's identity, the musical journey extends far beyond the Dance Temple.

The Alchemy Circle explores a broader spectrum of electronic music, offering a different atmosphere and sound from the festival's main psytrance floor.

Together with spaces such as The Gardens and Sacred Fire, Boom creates a diverse musical program ranging from intense dancefloor experiences to more organic, experimental and contemplative sounds.

The 2027 edition will continue the festival's push toward a renewed lineup across these stages, giving visitors a significantly different musical experience from Boom 2025.

More Than a Music Festival

One of the things that makes Boom different from many large electronic music festivals is the scale of everything happening beyond its dancefloors.

The festival combines music with visual arts, installations, performances, workshops, talks, healing practices, spirituality and environmental projects.

A Global Psychedelic Community

Boom Festival attracts visitors from around the world.

For its 30th anniversary, the festival is expanding its traditional Guest Country initiative.

Instead of selecting a single guest country, Boom 2027 will invite 10 countries, with two selected from each continent:

Europe: Serbia and Georgia
Africa: South Africa and Mauritius
Asia: Taiwan and China
Americas: Brazil and Peru
Oceania: Australia and New Zealand

A total of 500 free tickets will be distributed between these countries through Boom's official Ambassador network.

It is the first time Boom has expanded the initiative to this scale, highlighting the international character of its 30th-anniversary edition.

Boomland: Nature as Part of the Festival

Boom takes place at Boomland, a large natural site in Portugal that has become inseparable from the identity of the festival.

The land is not used only during festival week. Throughout the year, the Boom team works on regeneration, infrastructure and environmental projects designed to improve the ecosystem.

Ahead of Boom 2027, the organization has announced new camping areas and water-retention systems as well as a new environmental regeneration project called the Green Corridor around the Dance Temple.

Maintaining a balance between the number of visitors and the natural environment is also one of the reasons Boom operates as a limited-capacity festival.

New Access and Infrastructure for 2027

Getting tens of thousands of people into and out of Boomland is one of the biggest logistical challenges of every edition.

For 2027, Boom is working on new entrance gates and access roads designed to improve the flow of arrivals and departures and reduce waiting times.

The festival has also continued expanding and improving camping areas and other infrastructure across Boomland.

These changes are part of the preparations for the anniversary edition while maintaining the festival's focus on its natural environment.

Sustainability and Independence

Environmental responsibility has long been one of Boom Festival's defining principles.

The organization develops projects related to land regeneration, water management, waste reduction and collective transport while continuously publishing information about its environmental impact.

Boom also remains completely independent and sponsor-free.

Unlike most festivals of its size, there are no corporate sponsors or VIP areas, and the organization publishes financial information as part of its transparency policy.

The festival describes this independence as one of the foundations that allows it to maintain its identity and values.

Tickets for Boom Festival 2027

Boom Festival 2027 will have fewer tickets available than the 2025 edition.

The organizers have deliberately decided to maintain a limited capacity in order to preserve the balance between the community and the natural environment of Boomland.

Demand is expected to be extremely high.

Boom has sold out every edition since 2014, and Boom Festival 2025 sold out its online allocation in only two days.

Ticket sales for the 2027 edition are expected to open after the European summer of 2026.
